Photoshop is a powerful image editing software created by the famous John Warnock, the co-founder of Adobe Systems Inc. We can use this software to edit images, in many ways, many colors using its interesting effects to present them in an amazing way. Without wasting any more time discussing let us get right to it and see how to create Drop shadow using Photoshop.
Adobe Photoshop Software (We are using version cc2018 below). You can download the software and install it.Minimum Requirements for good performance a Hard Drive with 95 Mb space, 64 Mb Ram, 24-bit Video Display Card. (Our regular computers are much faster than this, so no need to worry) finally the 2 images that you have selected to work on (we have taken some selected images).
First, let me introduce you to some of the tools and terms of Photoshop or else it will be difficult to understand. Remember there are hundreds of tools and each has different uses. It will not be possible to mention all the names of the tolls in one post. So, just naming the tools that we will be needing today to complete our work.
Please open Adobe Photoshop after you have completed installing it. You can see in the below image, the toolbox, title bar, menu bar, etc are indicated.
Now let us get familiar with the tools inside the toolbox that we will need today.
Move tool is used to move an image. In order to place the images that you will work with you need to use the mouse to click on this tool. Eraser Tool is used to erasing the unnecessary part of the image. Basically works like an eraser. Press ] or [ in your keyboard to increase or decrease the size of the eraser.Blur Tool is used to making a part of an image blunt or blur. For example you can use this on the corners of an image to decrease its sharpness.Pen Tool is used to cutting out a part of the image based on our liking.
Firstly, we need to open our example image in Adobe Photoshop.
Then we will use the pen tool to create a path and separate the image from the background.
In order to select our image we will keep the entire image in Path 1 and we will path the shadow in Path 2 like the above image.
To create the shadow we need to select Path 1 and press Ctrl+Enter on our keyboard and it will be selected then we will use feather 0.5 and press Ctrl+J then our main image will appear in a new layer. Then we will use the same system in the shadow path and use feather 10-15 (The amount of feather depends on the quality of the image, if the image has a low resolution then we have to use 6-10 feather and if the mage has high resolution then use 10-15 feather) just like the below image.
Then just like before press Ctrl+J that will bring the shadow of the image in a new layer and we have to take a solid color layer under this two layers. Now we will select erase tool for Layer 2 and nicely remove the unnecessary parts of the image.
Now select the shadow layer and from the layer panel click on Add a layer style and there we can see that an option called Drop Shadow will come and we have to click on it.
From Drop shadow Blanding Mode will be multiply. Opacity-based on need and Angle, Distance, Spread, Size needs to be adjusted and press the OK button. Finally we have our long waited for Drop Shadow Making .
We hope we were able to help you learn a little bit about Photoshop and its uses and hope that you have liked our topic and that it was interesting and intriguing to you.
